While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book

Philip -
Thanks for the reply. My LX200 did not come in a hard case, just a
fiberboard shipping box. Since I'll have to buy one, would you recommend
Meade, or is there a better after-market solution?
BTW - I had been to your web site before I ever posted this :-) You
do excellent work! It gives the rest of us something to aspire to.
Cheers,
Bryan

Bryan
I transport my 10" LX200 regularly to the south of France (1600 mile
round
trip) in the standard plastic hard case that it came in. The only
special
thing I do is to lock the mirror using the Meade supplied bolt. Over
the
last three years it has been transported about eight times this way and
it
seems to work well. I check collimation carefully each time but it
seems
to be spot on. In fact I have not had to adjust collimation since about
two
years ago. I travel by car, but the trip includes a sea crossing (UK to
France) and sometimes I go by Hovercraft which can be quite rough with a
lot of vibration - probably more so than in a plane. The LX200 seems to
cope
very well - check out my web site (below) if you'd like to see the
images
that I acquire at the end of these expeditions! :)
