While you're here, how about checking out the
Astronomy Book
List ? |
Alexander,
I'm afraid that if you "heard" the short, which means to me that you
heard a sizzling or popping noise, most probably a large current was passed
directly into the circuit board. I had this happen with a Gateway 486 computer
once, and a small short blew the entire board. When that happens numerous
capacators, resistors and the CPU can be destroyed instantly. I'm sorry, but
it sounds as though the entire circuit board will need to be replaced. I don't
know where you purchased the scope from, but you should check with your dealer
about getting the scope serviced. Most probably the easiest thing to do would
be for the dealer to order a new circuit board from Meade, then install it at
the shop rather than having to send the mount back to Meade.
Sorry.
