While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Steven: As suggested, make the shadow of the ETX as small as possible.
In addition to that, if you will place the palm of your hand behind
the finderscope and then move the OTA around a bit, you will be able
to see the solar disc center up in the projected image. I do this all
the time and it takes less than 30 seconds with practice. Oh...
Disconnect the drive and the elevation lock so you can freely move the
tube with your other hand.... much less frustrating !

Whatever you do, DO NOT LOOK INTO ANY OF THE EYEPIECES WITHOUT A
FILTER !!! it will near instantly cause major damage to your eyes.
