While you're here, how about checking out the Astronomy Book List ?

Shouldn't we be encouraging Meade to build better SCTs?

I'd like to see the design shift towards slightly longer tubes and smaller
secondaries, and a fixed primary mirror - mounted on a GEM with LX200
goto capabilities.

The advantages of this design include :
1. No mirror shift
2. Better images due to smaller secondary
3. Easy balancing
4. No need for a wedge
5. Cameras won't crash into mount
6. Increased portability - mount and tube can be separated into lighter
components
7. If there's a problem with the optics, you don't have to send the heavy
mount back to Meade as well as the OTA

Seems to me that the SCT design has been compromised too much. Does anyone
agree?
