Hi,
I'm quite new to this list and I'm wondering if there is anyone with a
Meade SSC out there. (Schmidt-Cassegrains with equatorial/german mount LXD).
These telescopes don't seem to be very popular at all (at least in the US).
In fact I have just seen one ad 3 or 4 years ago (in Astronomy) which
featured the SSC-8, SSC-10, SSC-12 and SSC-14. The 8" and 10" versions
have been available (in Germany) for a short period, but I have never
heard anything of the 12" and 14" versions. I have the SSC-10 with LXD
650 mount plus CDS and I think this is the greatest telescope one
can have. Since the tube can be separated from the mount it is much
easier to move around than the LX-200 and it's about as rigid as the
LX-200 without wedge. So why did Meade drop this wonderful telescope from
the product line?
