I'm a New Zealander, coincidentally sitting in London at the moment and looking
at UK Meade pricing and general non USA pricing am puzzled as to why more people
don't buy direct from US dealers and import scopes themselves.

In my case it actually worked out much cheaper to fly to the States, buy an
LX200 and take it back to NZ than I could have bought one for in NZ or
Australia. Looking at UK pricing I suspect the same applies, especially when you
add the inevitable accessories to the overall bill. If you shop around its quite
surprising how little it can cost for freight if you dont want to fly and buy.

I think I set a record though in getting 85kg of luggage including a 10" LX200
(by the way, excellent optics on mine!) accepted on an economy ticket without
paying excess baggage!<g>.

I suggest potential o/seas purchasers of Meade products check out buying from
the States, dont forget to figure in local duties and taxes though.

Clear skies,
David Arlidge
