In the December issue of Astronomy, Meade has introduced a new series
of Starfinder Equatorials with a DC motor drive. They have also
introduced two computer systems, the Magellan I and II. I have several
questions that perhaps someone from the Mapug group would be kind
enough to answer:
1. Does Meade plan to make and offer a retrofit DC motor for the
older starfinders?
2. If they are going to offer a DC motor retro, how much will it
cost?
3. Will the DC motor retro operate in both axis for use with the
Magellan II computer unit without the purchase of additional equipment?
4. If they aren't planning on the DC retro, are they planning on
retrofitting the Magellan II to work with the AC motordrive perhaps
with the addition of a dual axis drive?
5. How will the Magellan units compare with other after market
computer systems for ease of use, accuracy and ease of installation?
