While I can't speak for Meades plans, I can share something on this account. I have a University Optics 80mm refractor mounted to a custom made tangent assy. The whole thing has Losmandy DM brackets that mount to a Losmandy dovetail plate. This all sites on top of the scope. I then have a Losmandy counterweight system on the bottom of the scope. All told its about 25 pounds of payload. Seems to work just fine, but I keep it very well balanced.
