Thanks for the info, Dick...

That brings up a couple of other points. Our scope-to-computer line
will be about 15 feet, so the Pictor is sounding iffy. However, Jack
Newton showed CCD slides at the recent Universe 96 conference and
I notice that the ST-6 shots looked much grain-ier than the Kodak
Pictor 1600 shots. He said it was because of the lower noise in the
Pictor, but the readout noise looks quite similar, and both have about
the same delta-T drop in the thermo-cooler, so thats a bit confusing.
I figured instead it was because the pixels were smaller on the Pictor.

Does the Pictor 416 really download via SCSI and show up on your
computer screen in about 1 second? Someone else at Universe 96 said
hed heard it was long enough to "get a cup of coffee". This was
actually a big reason I was looking at Pictor - the ST-6 apparently
takes 20 seconds or longer to download. If the ST-7 is similar, thats
a pain. Itll probably be months or more before we have enough $$$$$ to
buy a new CCD (until then, well hobble along with the ST-4 and Lynxx
we already have), so only the pipe sizing is critical right now.
