Subject: OBS: Tracked satellite last night?

We had one of the most transparent nights last night (sunday) I've seen
so far near Chicago, and as
I was searching for some object or other, a point of light came into
view that was moving quite fast.
I was unable to take my eye off the eyepeice so I could time it, lest I
lose it, but I estimated that it
was moving about 2' per sec. I was able to track it for quite some time
using the slow motion controls.
It was obviously tumbleing or rotating. The position was 19h 30m by
10deg 0' at 23:54 CDT 7/7/96 (4:54 UTC)
moving in an easterly direction with a slightly increasing declination.
Can anyone tell me what it was? Also,
I though you could'nt see satellites at midnight because it would be in
the earth's shadow? What was I looking at?

My position is 88.3W 41.9N

Thanks
