First, the easy one: No counterweight is necessary.

Now, I have the Meade 40mm on my Meade 8 inch LX200 and I am very satisfied
with it. However, some people who have tried both eyepieces will tell you
that the TeleVue Panoptic is the superior one.

However, the 40mm will give you lower power, which I find preferable. I
think your scope is 2500mm, which would give 62.5X for the 40mm and 71X for
the TeleVue. On my scope (2000mm focal length), the 40mm gives a
breathtaking 50X.

I suggest that you borrow both and try them on your scope. Choose well, as
these are eyepieces that will get a lot of use: I use my 40mm about 80% of
the time on my scope.
