My 12" LX200 seems to operate just fine with light or heavy eyepieces and
with or without the heavy Meade dewshield. A nicely counterbalanced system
seems aesthetically nicer but is there any practical reason to worry about?
Two things come to mind: the tube might unexpectedly swing and hit some
accessory on one of the fork legs or the out-of-balance weight might put
excessive strain on the Dec motors and gears. I dont worry much about the
first since the only accessory at risk for me is the cheap Meade
finderscope which if damaged would give me an excuse to get something
better. I wonder, though, if any of you have an opinion on the second.
The Dec motor doesnt seem to be straining but Im no expert.
