This is the correct position as stated in the manual. Having read the "crash report" I discovered that my viewfinder never fouls with the fork arms in *any* position, so I assume Meade has moved the bracket to stop it occuring with later versions.

The advanatage of setting the 'scope up in this postion (if you are a southern observer) is that if you have the PANEL side of the 'scope facing directly north, you can find objects even without any alignment at all, which is handy for finding objects during the day.
