g'day Ian,

Your problem withe the LX200 going the "long way 'round" can be solved by alwayssetting up with the scope facing due south, panel facing north, altitude at zero (ie pointing at horizon) and azimuth at zero. This is the position the scope "expects" at power up, in both N and S hemispheres. Once the 1 or 2 star alignment is made, the alignment is lost on power-down but if you always power-up with the scope in the above position, re-alignment will be easy.
