- Radio Shack sells some really heavy duty Velco-like stuff. It's not hook and loop but rather a sort of ball and socket arrangement. It's REAL strong. They sell to use to attach car tape players to the bottom of the dashboard. I don't think normal Velcro will be strong enough, especially over the long haul.

- I'd mount it UNDER the eyepiece. Above the eyepiece may cause interference with your head during visual observation.

- Use high quality (read, expensive) printer cables for high speed and/or > six feet length).

Black Box (412) 746-550 and Inmac (don't have the number handy) sell parallel port extenders that will go to 4000 feet.
