Subject: LX-200 R.A. lock adjustment problem

I have a 7 month old LX-200 (8") which has already had it's RA get
loose (the screw is backing out of the base - there are 4 threads
showing). Isn't this WAY TOO SOON for this to happen? It has only
been used 1-2 dozen times.
Per the manual, I removed the two allen screws from the lever, and tried to pull it off the post. When it didn't just lift off, I tried to pull it with pliers. The lever still didn't budge. The lever is now all chewed up, and I'm afraid to pull/pry any harder for fear of tearing the screw right out of the drive mechanism. What is wrong?
Does anyone have any advice on how to get this adjusted, short of mailing the whole thing in for service (and being without it for weeks +)??? The RA hardly holds now, and I think it's affecting tracking and the ability to slowly pan left-right.
Thanks,
