I have also seen the same flat spots on my 10" LX200 tripod. And I also
don't think I have been overtightening it. I discovered, however that the
small flat spots were not the cause of my problem in adjusting the legs.
I extended each leg out as far as possible and applied some light (3 in 1)
oil. This solved my problem. I appears that the legs were sticking for
lack of lubrication and in looking for that problem I saw the insignificant
flat spots. Give this a try and let us know how it works.
