I am looking for beta testers who have Macintosh computers and LX200s or
Magellan IIs.

My company is working on a plug-in for Starry Night(tm) 2.0* (soon to be
in beta). The plug-in will connect our database, InfoGenie(tm), with
Starry Night and an LX200. This combination will allow you to build
viewing lists that can be stepped through with the click of the mouse.
The telescope and Starry Night would be slewed to the object in the
database. Copious notes can be written in the InfoGenie record for the
object while you are viewing. Another click and it slews to the next
object in the database. Anyway, I think it is pretty slick, and it has
been fun doing. Preliminary tests have gone well on my LX200.

To be a beta tester, you will need a serial cable to connect your Mac to
the LX200. I can supply a pin out diagram that is more useful than the
one in the Meade manual. You may also be able to purchase them somewhere
(perhaps someone in the group knows).

You would be expected to spend some time using the software to both
build sky object databases for viewing, and actually observing from the
database/Starry Night setup. You would also be expected to give us
feedback as to what you had done, and how well it had worked. The payoff
would be a free copy of the release version of the software.

If you are interested in testing, please e-mail me at:

Let me know something about your equipment and experience.

Thanks,
Robin Casady
