Im attempting to shorten the giant tripod - Its just too tall for me.

One of the replies to my earlier questions on reducing the ghight of the giant tripod cautioned against making the base narrower. I see two approaches to this. First, I figured to shorten the legs but leave the bottom tension spider alone. This would r

The second approach would be to shorten the legs and keep the base dimensions the same by changing the tension spider. With a lowered CG, the steadiness might stay the same. Ive got to work this out first.

One reply said the legs are a press fit into the top hinge fittings. Is a glue or loc-tite type of compound used? Would a little heat on the end fittings and cold on the legs break things loose? Has anyone worked on the tripod legs?
