Hello, new to all this, need help!

Have been unable to connect the laptop (Fujitsu Lifebook 420D) to the
telescope. I have purchased the original cable from Meade, I hook up to
the laptop serial port and the RS232 in the scope, use the Epoch 2000sk
software, following the steps mentioned in the Meade blue instruction
manual.

It should work as I click on Telescope - Protocol - Meade LX200 and
nothing happens. Gives me a Read error. I have checked Meades' $25 cable
and connections, they seem ok, setup parameters on communication port
setup is according to instructions, and yet nothing happens. I tried
different ports and nothing.

Could anyone give me some insight into the solution of this problem?
