I have two areas where I would like some feedback:
I have a homebuilt 12.5" Newtonian on which I am imaging with a Pictor
416xt. I have to use trial and error focusing. I have made a focusing
eyepiece, but have found that it has to sit at the very top of the focusing
tube on the telescope to be in the same focus positon as the camera. Does
anyone have an eyepiece that works well as a focusing eyepiece? - or, do I
have to make up some kind of extension tube to get proper focus?
Next, has anyone come up with a source for an adapter to connect regular
camera lenses (in my case, Minolta) to the front of the CCD camera? I
understand that the CCD screw mount is the same as a Pentax-style screw mount
and then requires a 25mm extension tube added before attaching a lens. Is
this correct? How about other lens makers?
Thanks for the help.
By the way, I love my 416xt so far. I am still using v2 software to access
my images because my laptop doesn't have enough memory to run the new v6.
Soon that will be fixed as well. John Piper at Meade was SUPER in helping
me troubleshoot why I couldn't get v6 to run on my laptop - just a memory
problem!
