At this time, getting a ST-7 would be the best thing to do. If you
can not affor it either wait until you can or get the 216XT.

My ST-7 produced good results from the first night and has continued
to do so for the past two years. The software is easy to use. Anyone
with enough IQ to be doing amateur astronomy should be able get good
results right away without any sort help. A good number of 416 owners
on this list have switched. Those that did not have dec drive
problems report getting good results right out of the box. Why
frustrate youself?

The proof is in the results. After doing an extensive net search for
416 Images and not being able to find any (except on Meades web
pages), I asked in the s.a.a newsgroup. I got two responses. One guy
had some pretty good shots of Jupiter taken with adaptive optics. The
other guy did have some images. Do a similar search for ST-7 images
and you will find dozens of sites. The 416 has been on the market for
three months longer than the ST-7. Where are the results?

Next time someone tells you the 416 is ok, ask for images.

For some of my ST-7 images, see
