OK, I've just had the wonderful experience of replacing the circuit
board which dod not fix the problem. Ends up that it was the RA motor
assembly. After replacing that, everything seems to work ok, although I
have yet to "star test".
The one thing that is bothersome is a periodic noise which can be best
charactized as having a "heart-beat" rythm. It is especially noticable
when in "FIND" mode, and I move the scope east or west.
As well, I notice that the ameter indicator shows about three "bars"
when TELESCOPE/OBJECT LIBRARY is displayed or after pressing mode once
when the RA/DEC is diplayed. But when mode is pressed once more to get
LOCAL/SIDE times the ammeter indicator jumps a bit higher. When I cycle
past LOCAL/SIDE to the other modes the ammeter indicator settles back
down to its original "three-and-a-bit" bars.
