Paul and Dick,

While you are considering re-designing the power plug/socket arrangement,
why not completely get rid of the modular telephone jacks. One of my local
astro friends is a long time employee of the phone company and tells me that
the most frequent trouble calls for INSIDE problems is because of modular
jacks and/or modular plugs. And that is for stuff that is inside, rather
tahn out in the weather.

He is quite right but the only connectors that are gold plated and
will last, are weather proof gas proof etc etc
are usually larger round multi pin types that can cost a
fortune.Ie forty pounds sterling each pair.Meade are not going to fit
military spec connectors to scopes of this price. If you permanently
fix the cable in it makes the scope unmanageable so what do you
do.
