Hi Greg,
I only can underline Doc's statements on the DEC backlash matters. Doc,
great job on your DEC fix document, it's a fine piece of analysis. I have
also been working on the DEC backlash improvement and I have shown the
gearbox to a friend of mine, a swiss watchmaker. He measured the wheels
to be eccentric by an amount that even the lash in the gears could not be
held at a constant value. Further, with the "huge" amount of play on the
axles, he even was surprised that it worked that well. But compared to
the price one pays for the whole scope, he relatived his remarks. After
the improvements made on Doc's work I'm pretty happy now with the values
I have, but I'm not a watchmaker of course. For the price of a Patek
Phillipe or a Rolex you'll get a couple of these scopes an a lot more
with it.
Clear skies, Bob.
