Yes it can, but not easily. You have to remove four hex head screws...Meade
provides the hex wrench...then work the tube out of the mount, which is a
very tight fit. Then put the four screws back in the tube as the holes can
cause light leaks.

It seems as though the 1/4-20 mount is going to be the only way. Losmandy
systems are probably the most flexure-free. Their new 3-axis camera mount is
$140. Add to that the dovetail plate, about $90. Both are available at
Spectra Astro Systems.
