I have tried this eyepiece with a variety of scopes, including LX200s.
It is the absolute BEST 35mm eyepiece hands down. however, on certain
scopes, particularly fast ones, there are a variety of aberrations.
the most frequent aberration is from the user's own eye. The lower focal
length
brings out astigmatism that you may not be aware you have. Without glasses,
even at f/10, I have problems with the stars in this, or any other 35mm.
The second problem is with the faster SCTs. Even the 10" f/6.3 did not work
well
with the 35mm Panoptic. Stars wouldn't focus well. This was particularly
bad with this
SCT, but not with other scopes around f/6, so it wasn't just because of the
scope being
fast, it had something to do with the scope design as well.
Todd,
I posted concerning my experience of several panoptics, in which I queried
the fact that the star images were bloated in the outer 1/3 of the field. I
was using an 8" f10 sct (perfectly collimated, and I do mean PERFECTLY)-
they were also tried in a nice 8" f6.1 newtonian and showed the same thing.
I do have astigmatism, but was wearing my specs at the time. The bloating
was also present in a 27mm, and a 19mm. These were current production models
only 2 weeks old. An older 22mm did NOT exhibit this effect. Is it possible
that televue have changed the design or have had some production problems
lately? I was not the only one to comment on the star images that night.
Your web page was one of the reasons I was so anxious to try them!!!!
