I don't really think so, although I admittedly haven't tried it.
I have a herniated disc and had no problem at all with the Mak (16 pound
difference plus the difference in the tripods from the 12").....
less problem than carrying the scope and tripod separately in fact!

The difference is that picking up the scope separately is like carrying a
television or something, where you dare not drop it, and setting it down
requires dangerous bending. Not to mention the precarious balancing act
getting it on the tripod.

With the tripod legs there, it can be rested at any time without any effort
or bending. It's much more similar to lifting a person an inch off the
ground than to lifting a delicate, unwieldy object (which a tripod-less LX200
is). You just wrap your arms around them, lean back a little, and they're
airborne and balanced on you!
