Thanks for the info. I think I'll swap the 12mm for the 9mm and check into
the proper adapters. I purchased my 216XT used and it only had a short
1.25" adapter.

I have a Losmandy D plate with a DWS counterweight system. I know I need
another weight but the dew shield might do the trick on it's own.
