Greetings All:

Well, a little more research and I've answered my own questions...

Unless I can find a third-party setup that is (a) cheaper and (b) a
better design, it looks like I'll be buying a Meade LX50. Whether I buy
the Magellan II with the scope or later will depend on many factors
(none of them related to the purchase...and mostly related to how
--delted expletive here-- fast my company gets all the expense money
they owe me back to me. But, I'll make the big plune no later than June
1998 and probably a lot sooner!

I think the literature I had on Meade was older than the web page
information. In looking at the description of the Magellan II on the web
site, I see that a user can enter 125 objects! This is 100 better than
Celestron's Astro Master! So, I'll be able to enter my favorites...the
neighbor's window, that comet I find the first night out, etc.

I'm getting a "heavy duty" tripod through Roger Tuthill (his own
design/manufacture) figuring it would work for the ETX that I own...and
could be used for a future purchase. Do I save any money (is it worth
doing this?) by not ordering a tripod with the LX50? Or is better to
have a spare?

Now if only this Nor'easter would move on and leave with with some clear
skies before classes start again second week of January!
