Hi again,
If I'm understanding some of the replies to my question correctly, it seems
they do not agree... (see quotes below)
I would much rather have the scope work as described by John Rostoni than
that described by Bill Arnett... But like Bob Elliot said, that'll probably
require lots of computation and whatnot.
Note that I wanted to know about guide speed in ALTAZ mode. Things seem much
simpler in EQ mode. But my location is Singapore (1deg N), and I'm uncertain
of the practicalities of EQ-aligning it.
Oh yeah and the version of my scope is 3.34L as displayed in the keypad at
startup.
Perhaps GUIDE works differently in different versions...
BTW,
Is this the newest version? (for a 8"f10 LX200)
Or was it the most recent when I bought it sometime last September?
(checking if i was ripped off)
---------------
Bill Arnett:
My understanding of this is that the only difference in Guide speed vs the
other speeds is that when pressing the "E" button all that happens is that
the RA (azimuth) motor is simply turned off. This is probably a good thing
in polar mode (stopping the motor lets the Earth's rotation "move" the
field) but in altaz mode it means the motion is not in the opposite
direction to the "W" key as you might otherwise expect.
---------------
John Rostoni:
I believe that at all speeds EXCEPT Guide, the buttons move the scope
up/down, left/right. At guide speed, the buttons are a true celestial
N/S, E/W so it depends where you're pointing as to which direction the
scope actually moves.

Thanks to all!
