Try choosing your two alignment stars as being between 25deg and 80deg
apart and close to the celestial equator (ie near 0deg declination).

If their separation exceeds about 85deg, you certainly will get some very
strange results.

The MagII unit is very good but its learning curve is very steep. Not
helped by the very incomplete manual. Take a look at the Mapug archives
under LX50 and MagII for more details.
