Bob,
I own one of them and although I agree with your assesment of the design (I think
they could have been better and cheaper), I have not yet had a problem with the
pins and I have assembled and disassembled that puppy several times. I AM NOT
IMPLYING THAT YOU SCREWED UP, there are enough flame wars and spontaneous
critisisms on this list already! But I seem to mount it differently than you. I
always line up the pins by simply using the screws as a guide for gross
alignment. Then watching between the two units, to be sure the pins line up, I
mate the two units together. I then tighten the screws while holding the units
tightly together with one hand. I always assemble the units in daylight. The
only real difference here that I can see however, is that I always mate then
screw, whereas you seem to be relying on the screwing to mate the pins. (Gee I
hope the censors aren't reading this!) Once the pins are mated and the units are
together, then I screw in the screws. Do this without twisting or turning the
units. Just hang onto it with one hand and tighten it with the other. Hope this
helps.
