The real answer is the length of cable supplied with the scope.
The signals involved are only at five volt levels and are not
designed to travel properly over longer cable lengths than
the curly cord length even though other people have tried
this before now it is a dodgy trick to try as a modification to
the scope. It sounds as if you have blown up one of the
TTL driver chips for the lines between the handset controller
and the main computer in the Base.Even though they are cheap
to obtain and buy you need to get info from others on the
list as to what chips you need to change if you try to do this
yourself. If your scope is under guarantee, technically you have
invalidated the guarantee.
