18v vs 12v

I thought I would comment on the 18v vs 12v (put in my $.02).

There should be no problem using this voltage. By lowering the voltage to
the motor you are reducing the current proportionally (ex. E = IR). What
you might notice is a loss of torque which might cause a problem during
heavy loads. This might cause a fuse or two to blow! You also (depending
on the design) have a loss of max speed.

The 18v should not hurt the motor. However, if I remember correctly I
thought I read somewhere that the 18v was also used in the computer circuitry.

I have to contact Meade about my 16" so I will pose the question to John Piper.
