Just a few thoughts about the recent letter by Ron Ezra (Meade), and the answer
by Ron Moubrys. I agree with the latter.
If information is missing, rumours will arise.
According to a recent article in Sky & Telescope, rumours even made the
former Clarke Telescope company ruin.
Car companies fight similar problems, in Europe people still beleive the old
1960 rumours, that British cars won't start, and French cars get rusty.
The trick is to counteract these rumours as soon as they arise. Here this
network is a tremendous benefit, both to us, and to Meade.
Another software suggestion.
Ron Ezra adresses the issue of long duration exposures.
None of the letters I have read on this board have asked for 5 minutes unguided
exposures.
Meades advertisings talk about 3 minutes exposures. This may be possible on a
short focal instrument.
On our 16 Inch the exposure limit was due to drift as low as 20-30 seconds,
even in polar regions..
CCD will change our way of astronomy work, and for science teaching, unguided
exposures may imply a revolution..
Let me thus again suggest that Meade increases the accuracy of user defined
frequencies. High accuracy frequency input is possible on competing products
like JMI and Eckard Alt drives.
Best greetings,
Mogens Winther.
