Would it perhaps be interesting to track the voltage that people use on their
LX200s when they have a failure? Although Meade recommends 18V on the
scope, that does work the motors harder than if you were using 12V. I assume
they are using some version of pulse width modulation on the motors, and if
so, that means the motors are driven from the full supply voltage on each
limited width pulse.

I have been using exclusively 12V, and have not had a whisper of a problem.

Maybe the problems would show a tendancy towards one voltage or the other?
