I used 12vdc for 3 years and now use 18vdc for about a year and a half.
Ive had no problem with the dec or any component on the LX-200. It runs
fine all the time (once a month at least). I dont know what the problem
with some of the dec. motors out there but a rule of thumb is needed (I
believe). If changing circuit boards doesnt seem to fix the problem than I
believe its time to sent the scope in to have it professionally fixed. I
know this can be a real big problem cost wise, and I would also have a
problem with doing this, but it has to be a decision made.
The problem reminds me of a co-worker who was trying to fix a car. He was
an ok shade tree mechanic. The car was running poorly so he replaced the
carb. and that didnt help. He replaced the distributor and that didnt
help. He replaced the generator, plugs, wires, etc. etc. and nothing
improved the car, all with brand new parts. He ended up selling the car for
less money than he paid for it. Moral of the story is: find out whats wrong
with the dec drive before you try to fix it...or.....let someone who really
knows what he doing fix it........................ric
