Not to tempt fate too much, I remove the weight, futz the
retrograde away by jiggling the dec knob, and put the cover
back on. The Dec. retrograde remains as mysterious as
ever.

I still think this is due to the pesky worm possibly end float even
a few thousands of an inch must cause some effect.You could not
see this visually you would have to use feeler gauges to find out.It
is another parameter that could vary with factory adjustment.
