I started with one of the early 10" LX200's and wish that I had
not traded it in when the 12" was announced. I have the 12" LX200
now and it only weighs about 8 or 9 pounds more than the 10" but
the weight is farther away from the body than it was in the 10".
I did not have any serious difficulty in mounting/dismounting the
10" in either alt-az or polar modes. I do NOT attempt to do either
by myself with the 12". I do have a much younger friend who not
only does the mount/dismount without assistance but, until he moved
recently, carried the 12" up and down his apartment stairs. I
would suggest that you try out moving, mounting and dismounting
both size scopes before buying. Otherwise, you may end up like
me, with a 12" for the fixed location pier and an 8" for star
parties, etc. I feel that the 10" is a much more economical
compromise.
