Hi everyone,
This is my first message sent on this net. I am recently retired from the
u.s. navy and I have purchased an LX200 10" F/6.3 telescope and many
accessories. I use it in the suburbs with minimal light interference. Mainly
one street light and a few house lights. I was attracted to this hobby from
seeing all the stars at night at sea (the sky is beyond words for one that has
seen such a night sky at sea). I have a few questions maybe some of you that
have been in the astronomy hobby for some time can answer.
1. Any filters you can recommend?
2. Is collamation very important?
3. Are some eyepieces better than others?
4. Is ballancing the scope that important?
5. Why doesn't meade have a field battery kit vice the
car battery hookup?
6. When I take the scope from the house to the outdoors
should I take the dust filter off (a neutral density filter), which
seals the inside of the scope from dust and should I take it off when
I return the scope to the house (to avoid condensation inside the
scope)?
7. I have a dew shield. Will I still need a heat unit
when winter comes or should I have one now?
Any other tips you can give me will be appreciated.
Thanks, Lee
