I think splitting double stars is a good measure of optical quality only when the optics involved are diffraction limited. If this is not the case, quantifying optical quality is far more difficult. I don't own an LX200 so I can't say much about it. I follow this list because I'm considering buying one, so I would welcome comments on this topic.
