Just a supplement to my first posting:
Within a couple of hours of leaving a message with Meade, I was contacted by their customer service and although the problem has not been isolated, they are sending me a service kit that they feel will solve the problem; the gentleman that I spoke with (John Piper) was also going to forward more information that I provided to him to the engineering people for further evaluation. I am well pleased with the response and the action so far, but it's too bad that the scope went belly up after only five months. It hasn't seen that much use, and the only physical spot in the whole Universe where its been collecting photons is my backyard.
Patrick - thanks for that info - I will check that board out one more time - I did look at it briefly, but did not see anything out of the ordinary.
Another quick question for LX200 owners - Will the scope/keypad fully initialize if the cable connecting the Dec motor is left disconnected? I am curious if it only gets to the "Meade" readout or if it goes beyond that point. I can't do it, because mine won't initialize in any case.
Thanks! Doug Snyder - The Non-Existent (NGC) Astronomer
