Thanks to all who replied to my E-mail. As requested, here are the results
of the two people who sent me actual measurements of their image shift.
One was 2-3 arc minutes and the other one was originally 10 arc minutes,
but it was worked down to 2.5 arc minutes. Before I tried the fix from
Meade (thanks for the URL, I did not know we had a web page), my image
shift was about 1/4 of a degree. Following Meade's instructions (actually,
I moved the mirror up and down the tube about 25-30 times), I'm happy to
report that, believe it or not (I could not myself at first), I have NO image
shift what so ever. With my 9mm (222x), I could detect no shift at all.
I've gone from the absolute worst to the absolute best. I just hope that it
stays this way when I go observing, it definitely will not be 70 degrees
outside like it was when I did this! If not, I'll play with the backlash
until I get it down to as little image shift as I can (God forbid that it
gets worse once I go observing!). Thanks once again to everyone who replied,
and a special thanks to Rob Roy who kept in contact with me answering all of
my questions.
