I think part of the reason is weight as a prism would be much heavier
than the mirror flat.I find the mirror an expensive pain in the rear
end as I have only had mine a few months and it is deteriorating
already.Mine has been marked already by a faulty lumicon filter.
the threads on it were poor and it dropped out of the eyepeice
directly onto the mirror. This has marked the mirror with two light
scratches at one end.The high performance coatings I have been told
are difficult if not impossible to get replaced in the UK.It is
nearly always covered in dust even though I go to great pains to
block both ends of the assembly when not in use. This one of the
reasons why Newts also P**d me off as well and I thought I
had got out of this syndrome. And to cap it all it used to dew out in
the winter until I modified it with a heater.
Optical performance ??? is it worth it .
dunno
